We’re excited to share that uLesson Group—home to uLesson Education and Miva Open University—has been featured in Forbes Africa, the 2025 Nigerian Special Edition. This recognition shines a spotlight on our commitment to transforming education in Nigeria and across Africa with innovative, accessible, and scalable solutions.
Building a New Kind of Classroom
Our mission as a group began in March 2020 with uLesson Education, designed specifically for grades 1–12 learners. From dongles to the uLesson app and now the Education Tab 2 and the uLesson Classboard, we’re making quality education available even in areas with limited internet access. Our goal is that no child is left behind, no matter where they live.
Our engaging multimedia lessons, delivered through high-quality video and audio, are tailored to how students naturally learn. And the results speak for themselves: in government deployments, average student scores improved from 50% to 85% in just three months of using uLesson.
Higher Education, Reimagined with Miva Open University
Alongside uLesson Education, Miva Open University is redefining higher education in Africa. As a fully licensed digital university, Miva currently offers degrees in Computer Science, Public Administration, Public Health, Data Science, and much more, with plans to expand into Medicine and Engineering.
One of Miva’s most exciting innovations is MIND (Miva Interactive Neural Dialogue), an AI-powered learning companion that allows students to have natural, voice-based conversations with virtual instructors. Whether it’s discussing macroeconomic policy or solving complex problems, MIND brings personalised, one-on-one academic support directly to students’ devices.
Looking ahead, Miva is poised to scale massively, with a vision of reaching half a million students and becoming Africa’s largest university by enrolment by 2030.
A Bright Future Ahead
As our founder and GCEO, Sim Shagaya, puts it in Forbes Africa, the 2025 Nigerian Special Edition:
“We are building what I think will be one of the most profound commercial enterprises in the education space here in Nigeria.”
From preloaded grade 1-12 devices to voice-driven higher education, our story is about reimagining what learning can look like for millions of students across the continent.
We are deeply honoured by this recognition from Forbes, and we remain committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in education.
