Star Ambassador of the Month (June): Paul Jatau

A Journey of Passion and Impact

Hi, Paul. Can we know you?

In brief, I am from Kaduna State and have experience in private, mission, and public schools. Presently, I teach at a special school for girls, a public school in Kaduna, Girl Science Secondary School Soba. I have over 24 years of experience as a teacher/tutor, teaching ICT/computer studies.

Wow! 24 years of teaching experience?! That’s amazing. What motivated you to become a teacher in the first place?

The desire to make an impact in my community. I like adding value to people’s lives. I see teaching as an avenue for achieving that. The saying that “the best way to learn a subject is to teach it” is another motivation. I like reading, reading, and reading.

Yes. We improve society through education. Now, we understand that sometimes the country’s system is exploited. How have you sustained your desire and vision to impact society through teaching for 24 years despite the odds?

The first reason is intrinsic motivation. I have a genuine passion for teaching and a desire to make a positive impact on students’ lives. I also build meaningful relationships, strong connections with students, colleagues, and the community, which fosters a sense of belonging and purpose.

Thirdly, I stay updated on new teaching methods, technologies, and subject matter to stay engaged and motivated. In addition to that, I surround myself with encouraging colleagues, mentors, and friends who share the same values and goals. Acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of my students and myself also helps me maintain my momentum and enthusiasm.

Furthermore, I developed coping strategies to navigate challenges and adapt to changing circumstances. I am into farming, online tutoring, web design, and having my own business centre. Also, I regularly reflect on teaching practices, seek feedback, and make adjustments to improve and grow.

Joining a forum like this [the uLesson Teacher Ambassadors Community] is another great way of staying focused and learning from others as we all share experiences and knowledge. That’s it.

Right. It’s better if we do it together. Thank you, Paul.

My pleasure!

Measuring Success as a Teacher

One last question: How do you measure success as a teacher?

I measure success as a teacher through students’ success, growth, and overall achievement, and my contribution towards the student’s achievement as well as that of the school.

Amazing. 👏👏👏 It was nice knowing your thoughts.

It is always my pleasure.

Conclusion

To be honest, Paul Jatau’s dedication and passion for teaching are truly inspiring. His journey underscores the power of education in transforming lives and the importance of a supportive community in sustaining this mission.

Congratulations once again to Paul on being our Star Ambassador of the Month of June!🎊
