The new school year is here, and it’s about time to start helping your child prepare effectively. In this article, we share four easy ways to get them off to a great start:
Help them set realistic expectations for the new school year
Helping your child plan and set expectations for the new session is an effective way to get them started. Ask your child about their grade expectations in the various subjects they will be taking. This should be done after they’ve been introduced to the subjects at school, especially if the subjects are new to them.
Initiate conversations with them and discuss what they are hoping to learn and achieve in the first term of the session, then work with them to set SMART goals.

Help them establish a regular after-school routine
A consistent after-school routine helps children develop overall life skills that are significant to their success in academics and life. Skills such as time management, a sense of responsibility, prioritiation, and the like keep them in check with school and house duties
After-school routines such as nap time, study and homework time, house chore time, and playing, plus relaxation time, should be included to create a well-structured after-school routine for children.
It is also necessary to study and understand your child’s learning patterns so they can guide you when helping them create an after-school routine. This is a key tool for nurturing children’s development.

Let them know you will reward their efforts
Children love it when you praise or reward their effort whenever they complete some tasks, get a good score, or improve their grades. Praising their effort, getting them gifts, or rewarding them with a treat boosts their confidence and empowers them for better performance, even when they don’t get perfect grades. Let them know you will reward their efforts, even if it’s not every time.
